  • 1 egg.
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond flavoring.
  • OR 3/4 teaspoon peppermint flavoring.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla.
  • 1/2 cups all-purpose flour.
  • 1 teaspoon salt.
  • 1/2 cup crushed peppermint.
  • 1/2 cup white sugar.

How do you make candy cane cookies from scratch

  • Preheat oven to 375 F.
  • Mix butter sugar, eggs, and flavorings well.
  • Add flour and salt and mix well.
  • Form the dough into a disc and wrap it with plastic wrap;
  • Allow it to cool for at least 2 hours or until it is easy to handle.
  • Roll into 4-inch strips; Put it on a baking sheet.
  • Bend the top right down to form a handle or cane. Bake 9 minutes.
  • After removing it from the skillet, sprinkle it with the candy and sugar mixture, which is still warm of course.
  • The dough can also be split in half and colored with 1/2 teaspoon red coloring if desired.
  • Roll each color into strips, place them side by side, tap together lightly, and wrap some kind of rope.
